Question

When will you answer substantively Question No: 293 / 2013 from January this year, 'Do you agree that house building is widely regarded as an excellent means of lifting the economy out of the current doldrums and averting a triple-dip recession; are you aware that projects in Camden have demonstrated that 50% affordable homes can be achieved on new builds, like at Backton Low Rise and Abbey Wood; and do you agree that it is time you showed some leadership on tackling both the lack of affordable housing and unemployment by supporting 50% affordable homes on all new planning applications for housing?' ?

As I said in my response to MQ 293/2013, I do agree that house building is a good means of supporting economic recovery, helping to meet affordable housing needs and reducing unemployment. I am glad when a borough is able to maximise provision of affordable housing in the way my London Plan envisages. I do not agree that blanket adherence to a discredited, mechanistic affordable housing target which was never achieved is the best way of doing that and constitutes leadership.
