My London Plan (Policy 3.17) encourages boroughs to regularly assess the needs for health and social care facilities at the local and sub-regional levels and to secure sites and buildings for or to contribute to future provision.

Boroughs, working in partnership with the NHS, social care services, community organisations and developers should ensure that adequate and accessible health provision are planned in tandem with major housing development coming forward. This is crucial, not only to improve the quality of life of residents in new development, but also to avoid placing strain on existing infrastructure to the detriment of existing communities. This approach is also supported in my Housing Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG).

London boroughs can also when drawing up their Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) charging schedules incorporate contributions for local health infrastructure.
