Euro 6 engines for buses are not currently commercially available, which is why production vehicles will only meet this standard from 2014 when they can be fitted and the new standard comes into effect.

The NBfL with a Euro 5 engine already delivers a step change in emissions with 78 per cent less NOx and almost 50 per cent less CO2 than an average conventional Euro V diesel bus.

It will not be economic to retrofit the Euro 6 engine when it becomes available as it would mean removing virtually brand new Euro 5 engines from the vehicles involved.
