Question

A key performance indicator of the London Plan is ensuring 'increased employment opportunities for those suffering from disadvantage in the employment market' with a target to 'reduce the gap between lone parents on income support in London vs England & Wales average'. What assessment have you made of your progress against this performance indicator, and what further work will you undertake to increase employment opportunities and, in particular, reduce the number of lone parents on income support in London?

As the last London Plan Annual Monitoring Report (2012) shows, the gap between London and England and Wales in the proportion of lone parents on income support has reduced from 14 percentage points in 2006 to four percentage points in 2011. My commitment to increase the number of quality part-time jobs should help both lone parents and parents in couples to combine employment with care of children.
