Question

A resident of Croydon & Sutton has written in about the proposal to build an incinerator in Beddington Lane, Sutton. In a local poll of residents last December, 94% of the votes cast said "No" to these proposals, with only 28 votes in favour. Have you made any representations to Sutton about the plans and if not, how can you reassure the majority of residents who are against the proposals that their views will be taken on board?

I was consulted by Sutton Council in August 2012 on an application for energy from waste facility in Beddington Lane and provided my initial response on 20 September 2012 (PDU/2600/01). Once Sutton Council has resolved to determine the application it is required to refer the application back to me when I will decide whether to let the Council's decision stand, take over the application for my own determination or, direct the Council to refuse permission. In making that decision I will have regard to all the representations that have been made on the application.
