Officers are drafting a response which will be sent shortly.

Written response received 1 November 2012.

As a result of the excellent work of the TfL funded Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Safer Transport Teams (STTs), as well as CCTV on all buses and other community safety initiatives, crime on the bus network continues to fall. There are now just 9 crimes per million passenger journeys on the bus network, compared to 22 crimes per million passenger journeys in 2005/6.

Set out below is the number of STT officers in post for each borough by month from May to September 2012, set against the target strength. TfL worked closely with the MPS to ensure the maximum number of officers were allocated to STTs within the constraints of the overall MPS human resource plan. The MPS implemented a freeze on all transfers and HR changes in the run up to and during the Olympic period in order to ensure effective operational planning for a safe and secure Games. This has now been lifted. TfL is working with the MPS to ensure that these vacancies are filled as soon as possible.
