Question

Constituents in Islington have expressed concern that the proposals for 20mph limits in London Borough of Islington will be frustrated if the phase timings of traffic signals at interchanges between red routes and council roads are not changed.

Where the sequencing of lights has been set up to facilitate 30mph operation drivers will be encouraged to speed up to 30mph and not drive in a more relaxed, 'smoother' way at 20mph.

Will the Mayor ensure that Transport for London's Traffic Signals Unit prioritises the timing changes necessary for the smooth flow of traffic in the 20mph speed limit areas of the London Borough of Islington?

Officers are drafting a response which will be sent shortly.

Written response received 15 August 2012.

TfL is happy to discuss this with the London Borough of Islington at the next scheduled meeting regarding the Borough's proposals on this matter.
