Figures featured in appendix A are supplied by HR - Workforce Planning and relate to Borough level Met HR data.

The numbers do show areas of 'under strength', some of the reasons for this include:

• As of the 24th October 2011, a number of wards across the MPS will share a Sergeant. As a result a number of these positions were not 'backfilled'.

• The MPS Workforce Deployment Unit leads on the corporate PCSO posting process, to transfer PCSOs from posts which no longer attract funding or where funding has been reduced, such as Safer Transport, into vacant SN posts. The movement of staff takes into account business need, workplace location preferences, and the rate at which the BOCU losing PCSO posts can take up the existing workload.

• There are currently 400 PCSO undertaking training to become constables, they are in the process of completing their PLC course (one day per week for 16 weeks). During this 16 week course, they will continue to serve as PCSOs.
