In December 2010, the New Policy Institute & Trust for London reported in London's Poverty Profile: Reporting on the Recession that the unemployment rate among young adults is higher than at any time in the previous 17 years and that one in three of London's unemployed population are aged under 25. Given that the LDA's 'Sustained Employment' budget has been decimated, what do you intend to do as Mayor to help rectify London's shocking record on youth unemployment?

My relentless focus on generating more apprenticeships is geared towards supporting young Londoners access jobs. We will also be doing more to support internships and work placement opportunities to ensure that we respond to employers demands that young people are ready to join the labour market and successful in their jobsearch. I am pleased to see that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills have increased the budget for apprenticeships and that the Department for Work and Pensions new Work Programme will fast track young people into provision. I will also be working to ensure that London's European Social Fund monies for both youth and adult provision meet the needs of Londoners.
