There are currently four hydrogen-powered buses operating on London's RV1 route, with a fifth due to be introduced by the end of March 2011. We have also secured €5.67m in funding as part of the EU's Cleaner Hydrogen in Cities (CHIC) project, which will allow us to introduce three more zero-emission hydrogen hybrid fuel cell buses. A total of eight buses are expected to be in service by the end of 2011, at which point the entire RV1 route - which runs from Covent Garden to Tower Hill - will be operated by zero-emission hydrogen technology.
