My answer to 2482/2010 sets out the current financial arrangements and new arrangements for funding airport security from April 2011. Airport policing is delivered by a specialist Metropolitan Police Service Operational Command Unit (OCU) known as Aviation Security. The financial burden for Newham residents is no greater than for residents of any other London borough because the policing precept is applied equally across all 32 London boroughs for properties in the same council tax band. For the last two years I have frozen the total GLA precept so the cost to the people of Newham has actually fallen in real terms.
