TfL is continuing to investigate a number of options to improve the junction of Holloway Road, Fieldway Crescent and Madras Place. After their initial assessment of previous studies carried out at this location, and a site assessment, a preferred way forward in terms of an improved junction layout was identified. Following discussions with officers at the London Borough of Islington it was agreed that a stakeholder meeting would be held to agree a preferred option and a way forward, once options had been designed and investigated further.

However, as is often the case with junctions on the strategic road network, following more detailed investigation, a number of additional options have been tabled. Unfortunately, the issue has proven more complicated than previously anticipated as a result of the need to balance the competing demands of all the users of the junction.

I am aware that a meeting between the relevant stakeholders took place on Monday 14 December 2009. The groups TfL met have now taken the options tabled back to their members, but have committed to returning comments on these to TfL by mid January 2010, at which point TfL can take the chosen option forward.

TfL is aware of the priority given to this scheme and is continuing to work toward a scheme that is viable and genuinely delivers benefits to cyclists and pedestrians.
