Can you confirm that rather than the promised 1,000 new jobs at City Airport being created as a result of the extra flights that have been permitted, only 480 have materialised, and if this is the case, how do you account for the shortfall?

I will shortly send a response.

Additional information provided on 26 January 2010:

The granting of planning permission for the expansion of flights at London City Airport, and the consequent assessment of potential impacts and benefits such as job creation, was a matter for the London Borough of Newham. The employment projections were developed and the planning application considered before the full extent of this deep economic recession became evident. The downturn in the economy has had an impact on the demand for air travel which has had a knock-on effect upon the creation of the new jobs. The realisation of these job projections will therefore be delayed, but is expected to be delivered once the economy returns to growth in the medium term.
