Answer for East London Line Phase II

Answered By:
Boris Johnson (Chair, TfL) and Sir Peter Hendy (Commissioner, TfL)

The DfT has agreed to the Mayor's proposal to split the remaining funding gap 50:50 between themselves and TfL. However, the DfT imposed a number of conditions on the ELL extension Phase 2b project as part of this additional funding contribution which has increased the cost of the scheme and therefore the size of the funding gap. TfL is currently discussing how these conditions can be met, in particular when work at Surrey Canal Road can commence. We are unable to confirm that the project can proceed until all of the funding has been identified.
