Question

Is the Mayor aware of attempts by CapCo, the landlords of the Covent Garden Estate, to more than treble the rent on the London Transport Museum, from £480,000 to £1.6 million per annum? Does the Mayor agree that this action is totally unjustified, especially in the current economic climate?

Answer

I am aware of an outrageous demand by the Museum's landlords, Capital & Counties, for an increase of nearly 400% in the London Transport Museum's rent. Such an increase would plainly have a material impact on the Museum's activities, including its hugely valuable work with London's communities and young people, and is completely at odds with the current economic climate. An arbitrator has been appointed and TfL are contesting Capital & Counties' demands.
