Can you guarantee my Hackney constituents that this will not affect the plans to create a "new Soho" for creative industries in Hackney Wick and that the local employment and business opportunities they were promised will still be available after the Games?

As I have said, we are working very closely with the ODA to secure a sustainable legacy for this facility and are reviewing all opportunities especially those that can take advantage of the communications and broadcasting infrastructure that will be provided for this facility in 2012. The opportunities this infrastructure presents will be attractive to media and creative industries in particular, and initial discussions are taking place with a number of potential occupiers. However it is some four years away from its availability for legacy and in the present economic climate it is difficult to obtain definitive commitments at this stage, but we remain optimistic. Local employment and business opportunities are key to the long term success of the Olympic legacy and my Board of Advisors and the London Development Agency are engaged in and working on numerous initiatives with a wide variety of stakeholders in east London to take full advantage of the opportunities the Games present.
