TfL is moving increasingly to a web-based application system for student Oyster Cards. This obviates the need for a paper signature since applications are approved on-line by the college. Since September, TfL has issued nearly 200,000 Student Oyster cards, with over 135,000 issued via the on-line process. Of the paper applications received, 639 have been rejected because the application was not signed by an authorised signatory, i.e. a rejection rate of just under 1% of paper applications or around 0.3% overall. TfL does not have this information broken down by borough. Any spatial analysis of 18+ student data would tend to be dominated by the locations of student halls of residence.
