Answer for District Line

Answer for District Line

Answered By:
The Mayor

The District line has suffered from a lack of investment in the past and operates at capacity with ageing infrastructure, outdated signalling and a difficult track layout. However, thanks to the dedication of the staff, the performance of the line is improving. The District line D-stock trains are amongst the most reliable on the Tube and their recent refurbishment has dramatically improved their customer features with new in-train CCTV, audio-visual customer information and improved layout with space for disabled customers. This line will benefit greatly from the investment planned as part of the comprehensive upgrade of the sub-surface lines which also include the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines. New trains are already being built and will enter service on the Wimbledon-Edgware service from 2012, with an extra carriage on these trains to increase capacity.
