Question

What is the Mayor's comment on the news that the American Embassy in London is planning to move to Nine Elms, Wandsworth? Nine Elms is an area with massive regeneration potential, so does he think this will add greatly to Wandsworth's good works there?

Answer

Answer for US Embassy

Answer for US Embassy

Answered By:
The Mayor

The proposed relocation of the US Embassy to Nine Elms is likely to become a referable planning application, and it is therefore not appropriate for me to comment. If I were to do so, I am advised that I would be fettering my discretion and so would be unable to deal with the relevant planning application at the appropriate time. In the meantime, my planners continue to work with Wandsworth and Lambeth Councils and other stakeholders on a planning framework for the Vauxhall/Nine Elms/Battersea Opportunity Area, which will enable all authorities to respond quickly, consistently and appropriately to new development proposals, and to make the most of the area's redevelopment potential.
