Question

I am advised that in one weekend (52 hours), Tube Lines can complete as much station work as in 23 nights using weekday engineering hours. Are you exploring opportunities to speed up the Tube modernisation programme with longer, more efficient line and station closures?

London Underground always explores all options for delivering upgrade work in the most efficient way which involves extended closures where appropriate. Also, where lines have to be closed at weekends for track and signalling works, the opportunity is always taken, where possible, to make progress with station works on the closed section. However, the benefits of longer closures have to be balanced against the need to keep London moving. The current heavy programme of weekend and other closures, though vital if we are to deliver the much needed renewal of the Tube, already places a significant burden on customers who have to use alternative, usually longer, routes to complete their journey.
