A Programme Board (Every Child Matters) was set up within the MPS to implement the statutory requirements of the Children Act 2004. Part of the Programme Board's work included a review of MPS selection processes. As a result, some changes have been made to the existing recruitment Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). These are: * The MPS is currently in the process of becoming a registered body to enable Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks to be carried out "in house" * The recruitment SOP now includes a list of "identified risk posts" and provides guidance to the recruiter about obtaining a CRB check for the successful applicant. * All advertisements for "identified risk posts" will now include details of the requirement for the postholder to undergo a CRB check. * The Recruitment and Selection Toolkit guidance notes are also in the process of being updated to reinforce the requirements of the Act.
