The estimated cost to the MPS of policing football matches (based upon an average deployment of 5 hours) is as follows: The cost in 2005/06 was £6.2m. The cost in 2006/07 was £7.5m (the increase was mainly due to the opening of the Emirates Stadium, which resulted in increased deployment for Arsenal matches). The cost in 2007/08 was £9.1m (the increase is due to the reopening of Wembley Stadium). The costs in relation to 2003/04 and 2004/05 are not readily available from existing systems. The policing costs are met from a combination of Territorial Policing and Central Operations budgets.
