In June 2008 the Better Buildings Partnership (BBP) formed a working group to develop and test a template for green leases. The group consists of BBP members and associate members including BCO (British Council for Offices), BPF (British Property Federation), OGC (Office of Government Commerce), RICS (Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors) and major legal firms. It is this week publishing its 'Guidance on Green Leases', providing a practical framework for owners and occupiers to work in partnership to improve the environmental performance of their buildings. This will be trialled by BBP members over the next six months, with some already initiating discussions with tenants. It is hoped that the guidance will also have a wider uptake in the property market.
