The Open Spaces Strategies Best Practice Guidance (BPG) - which has recently been issued for consultation - sets out a methodology that the boroughs can use for the preparation of an open space strategy. These strategies will identify open spaces in need of improvement, which can then be included in action plans to address the issues identified. This can include improving the management and maintenance of the open space. The BPG provides the framework for the development of comprehensive borough strategies. This will provide a better understanding of the value and benefits of open space underpinning their protection and improvement. This supports the aims set out for the direction of planning policy in Planning for a better London to protect and enhance London's open spaces.
