Question

Will the Mayor ask NHS London to investigate a decision by Kingston PCT to limit competition of service providers in the Tudor Ward - a decision their own Board papers acknowledge is open to challenge and which is contributing to health inequalities in the capital as competition is encouraged in some areas while being prohibited in others?

The Mayor

I am not sufficiently knowledgeable about Kingston PCT's procurement scheme to be able to take a view about their primary care procurement decisions.

I should also point out that I have no direct responsibility for local NHS services. My health role is a strategic one and I am not in a position to get involved in local decisions about the delivery of health services. However, if send my office further details, I will ask officers to investigate whether this decision contravenes any of the principles we are working on in the Health Inequalities Strategy.
