Will you be giving any priority to reducing drug dealing and use in Brixton?

Answer for Drugs

Answer for Drugs

Answered By:
The Mayor

The Mayor recognises that open local drug markets such as those in Brixton can create a climate of fear and intimidation, as well as impacting on health and providing finance for illicit economies. They damage local business and encourage wider lawlessness. These issues must be addressed through partnerships of the relevant agencies.

The Mayor through GLA officers is working with the London drugs and community safety partnerships to undermine local markets such as those in Brixton by enforcement to reduce supply; situational measures such as CCTV and spatial design to reduce supply and demand; educational programmes and treatment to reduce demand and encouraging communities to provide a robust message that open drug markets will not be tolerated.

I will continue to work with Greater London Authority Drugs Alliance and the London Community Safety Partnership to ensure that harms caused by open drugs markets in locales such as Brixton will be reduced.
