The LDA very insensitively turned down a New Opportunities fund application from a club offering football activities to youngsters on Council estates in Norwood/Gipsy Hill because the application was ten minutes late. (Question 2521/2006 Meeting date 15/11/2006 refers) Will the LDA be writing to this organisation with information about how to apply for Youth Offer funding?

The Opportunities Fund Round 2 was set up as an open and competitive bidding process. It was widely publicised ' including application timetable and deadlines.

It was considered important that consistent rules were applied to all applications. There was an overwhelming demand for funding grants from applications submitted by the deadline.

The LDA would be happy to work with this organisation. Regarding the Youth Offer, concerned if you could provide their contact details. It may be helpful to summarise the position on the Youth Offer Fund:

This comprises 2 elements. One element is funding of £14m distributed to every London local authority. It is their responsibility to ensure that the funds are used towards seeking positive outcomes for young people, and to determine how best to apply the funds in their boroughs by reference to their young people. Further information on who to contact within each local authority can be found on the LDA and GLA websites.

The other element of my Youth Offer Fund is a £5m bid-in fund. This fund will be launched within the next four weeks. Its launch prospectus will encourage applications from the not-for-profit sector in particular, working in partnership, to benefit young people in their own borough, in several boroughs or across London. It is envisaged that this fund will support about 30 different initiatives. Further information about this fund will be posted on the LDA and GLA websites at the time of the launch.
