The MPS has informed me that they have dealt with: 2005: 67 demonstrations / events 2006: 341 demonstrations / events 2007: 963 demonstrations / events In addition, Charing Cross police station assist with an average of 36 smaller events each year which pass through Parliament Square. It should be noted that there are few specific events that take place exclusively within Parliament Square. Throughout the year, however, the MPS deals with a number of marches and parades that affect the Square and which pass through it, sometimes necessitating road closures that impact upon traffic levels in Parliament Square. Some examples might include New Year's Eve celebrations or the New Year's Day parade or ceremonial events, such as State Opening of Parliament and Remembrance Day. A number of small marches are facilitated annually from Tothill Street to Whitehall Place.
