The majority of environmental standards I have been seeking have been met and are compliant with existing policies, including the proposed further alterations to the London Plan. There are issues in the areas of waste, water and timber and procurement, but I am confident that my officers can reconcile these through the planning application process. You will appreciate that, given my role in the planning process, it might cause difficulties if I get into too much detail about such matters at this time.

However, I did have a meeting with David Higgins [Chief Executive, Olympic Delivery Authority] yesterday where we were finalising the design of the main stadium, and I gave him a list of all our detailed objections where we think the ODA is falling short. He was able to come back and say, `We have made progress on many of these issues' so I think this is a gap that will close down to the point where it may not be in the written form that we would like, but the effect on the ground should be what we want.
