Question

I recently visited every Northern Line tube station in my constituency and whilst TfL is doing a good job in managing these stations, which are clean, bright and well run there are major structural problems with all of the Clapham stations, which are cramped, inaccessible and two have dangerous central island platforms. Where are the prospects for rebuilding Clapham Common and Clapham North stations in the future?

Rebuilding the stations in order to eliminate the island platforms would require excavation of new tunnels and additional platforms. This type of work is extremely expensive and would only be justifiable in cases of sizeable customer demand well beyond the levels at Clapham Common and Clapham North stations. LU does not therefore have plans to do this. LU is however looking to introduce timetable changes on the Northern line as a means of reducing the number of occasions the station has to close as a result ocongestion. The new timetable is planned for introduction in early 2008.
