I would like to make it clear that there has been no decision taken to close Clarence Avenue. Any proposals for closure would require proper consultation with those affected before any decisions could be takenAn experimental closure of Clarence Avenue is not considered appropriate because temporarily closing Clarence Avenue without implementing the rest of the Gants Hill scheme would not accurately represent how the scheme would alter traffic flows in the area. Any results would therefore be misleading. The most appropriate way of predicting future traffic movements is by means of data collection to characterise the existing situation, entered into a suitable traffic analysis tool, where traffic movements are modelled and impacts assessed for each scheme option, according to the particular parameters of the design.
