Since the inception of the Metropolitan Police Transport Operational Command Unit (TOCU) Cab team in August 2003, 34 officers a year have been dedicated to the unit targeting illegal minicabs in priority locations. Prior to the formation of the TOCU, there were only around six officers assigned to tackling touting. The Cabs team undertake regular intelligence-led visible anti-touting patrols and targeted covert operations. The Cab team also work closely with local borough police on joint operations and use Borough resources on these operations where it is considered appropriate.
