As you are aware this scheme is currently at route options consultation stage and TfL are working with the boroughs, citizens and businesses to explore the best possible route alignment that maximises the regeneration benefits the scheme can bring. Cross River Tram will provide a vital new link for London. It will support regeneration initiatives in the North and South of London and improve access to jobs, education and homes, helping to cut congestion and pollution as well as relieving crowding on some of the busiest stretches of the Northern, Victoria and Piccadilly lines. The current consultation runs until the end of January 2007. TfL then aim to have an agreed final route for the scheme in the summer of 2007. The latest projection for the Cross River Tram is £650m at 2006 prices. This is an estimate as the scheme is still in early stages of development and includes the forecast cost and a substantial additional contingency allowance in accordance with DfT guidance.
