Question

Is TfL willing to visit the pedestrian underpass at the Great Cambridge Road (A10) and the junction of the North Circular to see at first hand the desperate need for CCTV cameras? These cameras need to be installed as a matter of urgency - this is an extremely dangerous and unpleasant area and one which the local safer neighbourhood team have highlighted as needing urgent attention.

TfL staff have visited the roundabout where the A10 meets the North Circular, and have commissioned design work for a CCTV system to cover the pedestrian subways of the roundabout. We are working closely with LB Enfield (Enfield Public Safety Centre) to develop a comprehensive and cost effective solution that will also monitor the central reservation of the roundabout, the surrounding shop fronts, and nearby alleyways. This partnering approach to the scheme will be a more effective solution than cameras alone.

A thorough site survey is required, and a detailed investigation into suitable mounting locations as well as for electrical supply and communications cables. The design will extend into the New Year and installation is planned to be completed by September 2008 at the latest.
