Question

In directing Hammersmith & Fulham Council to refuse permission for the planning application for the Prestolite factory site in Shepherd's Bush, many Londoners in the lower income bracket will be denied an opportunity to access the housing market. How do you equate this with your aims in Towards the Mayor's Housing Strategy?

Answer

Answer for Affordable Housing

Answer for Affordable Housing

One of my reasons for directing refusal of this application was the applicant's failure to meet my preferred London Plan tenure mix by failing to provide sufficient social rented housing. Instead the applicant's preference was for an enhanced percentage of intermediate housing. In my consultation document 'Towards the Mayor's Housing Strategy' I am seeking views on the affordability of intermediate housing products and whether new intermediate homes meet the housing requirements of Londoners.I believe my decision will encourage the applicant to review its plans and that a revised application will deliver a better mix of affordable housing.
