My 2004 London Plan (Policy 3D.3) already states that boroughs should 'work with retailers and others to prevent the loss of retail facilities that provide essential convenience and specialist shopping'.'. In responding to concerns over specific markets I have made clear that viable street markets fall within the remit of this policy.I have included this commitment in my Further Alterations to the London Plan (Policy 3D.3), noting that my 'Food Strategy shows how the social and ethnic composition of London make street and farmers' markets important in meeting dietary requirements as well as enhancing choice in, and vitality of, town centres. SRDFs will provide guidance on street markets of strategic importance' (para 3.232i). The London Development Agency takes this policy into account when working with boroughs and other partners on town centre renewal schemes.
