In partnership with Croydon Council, TfL conducted an extensive public consultation last summer to establish local aspirations for the town centre following the opening of the relief road. The consultation documents provided numerous suggestions and examples of the type of measures that could be introduced and requested respondents to advise TfL of their preferences. Over 1200 replies were received, constituting a reliable sample and a return rate of approximately 10%, and which clearly demonstrates the level of public interest in this project. Work is currently underway to develop plans which meet local aspirations as closely as possible. The project to improve Cousldon Town Centre in being progressed, with designs expected to be completed by summer 2007. This will include the provision of wider footways and a more attractive pedestrian environment. At the present time it is anticipated that the work would commence on site in late Summer/early Autumn 2008.
