Question

The Metropolitan Police Service issued Practice Advice in September 2005 to provide "Guidance on Setting Up and Maintaining Neighbourhood Panels". It is noted in the guidance that "The panel must decide if the councillor should have a role in deciding the priorities as their involvement may politicise the outcome".

How many councillors have been formally so excluded from decision making on policing priorities in their ward?

Answer

Answer for Neighbourhood Panels (13)

The majority of Safer Neighbourhoods teams do not involve councillors in decision making. However, as per the Metropolitan Police guidance note, councillors are frequently involved and have an input into both panel meetings and the work of Safer Neighbourhoods teams at a local level.
