London Underground (LU) is committed to redeveloping Victoria Underground station in order to increase station capacity, reduce congestion and offer better access for customers. A project team has been established to deliver the upgrade and a design has been developed which proposes a new ticket hall and an expanded Victoria line ticket hall to provide extra capacity. This should mean the need for station closures / control measures under normal operations will be avoided in the future.LU is required to seek statutory consents to construct the scheme, including a request for planning permission, through a Transport & Works Act Order authorised by the Secretary of State for Transport. The application for this is currently scheduled for late 2007. Subject to the necessary consents being secured, construction work could start in 2009 and is expected to take approximately 5 years to complete. Construction work around the time of the Olympics will be managed so as not to cause disruption at that time.
