Question

Can you tell me the total budget for the London Safety Camera Partnership in the last three years? What is the projected budget for the coming year and how is this affected by the speed awareness course?

The approved Department for Transport (DfT) income and expenditure amounts are shown in the table below. The original approved figures for 2006/07 were £12,098,000 for income and £10,219,000 for expenditure. Due to the introduction of the speed awareness course scheme in August 2006, the figures were revised down to those shown in the table. The original figures assumed 100% fine income, whereas there is now a proportion who choose the speed awareness courses instead of paying a fine, thus reducing income. Payments for these go to the course provider, rather than into the Camera Partnership. I am confident that the courses are beneficial in improving attitudes and behaviours in speeding drivers, and do contribute positively to road safety in London.The reduction in income will not be an issue from the financial year 2007/08 as the London Safety Camera Partnership will receive a fixed grant from DfT of £10.5M, regardless of the amount of revenue collecte
