The Walking Plan for London - adopted in February 2004 - sets out a comprehensive set of actions and policies which aim to address the barriers to Londoners' walking further and more often. I am confident that the Walking Plan covers the eight key themes of the Walk21 Charter and hence I believe that London is already working towards the Charter's commitment to 'healthy, efficient and sustainable communities where people choose to walk'. As such I am happy to sign up to the Charter as a means to encourage other cities to adopt a similar vision to my own, which is for London to be one of the most walkable cities in the world within 10 years.
