I am and will continue to support the Real Nappies for London scheme, along with other environmentally responsible nappy options. I support the widening of information about re-usable nappies so that parents can make informed choices. However, as I have said in the past the use of energy to wash nappies cannot be discounted from the equation. I also strongly support the development of work to find other alternatives such as biodegradable disposable nappies. The Greater London Authority officer role has been an advisory one through the working group, and funding for the project will come directly from the boroughs. It is hoped through working together to establish a pan London scheme it will raise awareness for other options for the disposal of nappies that reduce the carbon footprint of waste and ensure parents have a fair choice.
