Answer for Newham Travellers

The LDA has been working to deliver a permanent relocation site for these families ahead of July 2007, when cleaning up and construction of the Olympic Park will begin at their current site. The Newham Travellers have always said that their preference is for a permanent move to a new site and that they would not want to move twice. There is no scope for a new site within the Olympic Park during the Olympic Games development and construction period. A planning application has therefore been submitted for a new permanent Travellers site elsewhere in Newham and a decision on this application is expected shortly. If however, an alternative temporary site does become available with the necessary planning consent for the period from July 2007 until the delivery of the legacy after the Games and all parties, including the families themselves, agree at that time that this represents a better solution, then I can confirm that I would be happy to support the provision of a Traveller site within the legacy development of the Olympic Park.
