Question

Regarding Recommendation 2, Black Teachers in London, as Ofsted announced a revised race equality scheme just prior to the publication of this report, would the Mayor agree to withdraw, or at least review, this recommendation?

No. Much of Ofsted's revised Race Equality Scheme refers to Ofsted's internal arrangements regarding Ofsted staff and related individuals. However, regarding schools and inspections, the revised scheme notes that under the heading `further consideration and development activity needed', crucial aspects such as `encouragement of cultural diversity and awareness in schools' and `improved information on performance of all groups, including minority ethnic learners for schools and inspectors' are included. This is entirely in line with the report's findings. I would also like to see more attention given to implementation of race equality initiatives for staff and pupils under the inspection regime
