The number of physical assaults on staff and customers across the London Underground Network is shown below. LU has had in place for over five years a systematic campaign to reduce workplace violence against staff and to improve the safety and security of customers. In both cases, this is through LU working closely with the British Transport Police. The effects of these initiatives can be seen in the fact that between 2000 and 2005 physical assaults on customers have decreased by almost 30% and on LU staff by over 20%. This improvement means that LU continues to be one of the safest metro systems in the world. LU are currently compiling the figures for each station and will provide you with the information when this has been completed.
