One of the key recommendations made by the Westminster Housing Commission was that the City Council should enhance the range of financial and other incentives for those under-occupying affordable housing who wish to move. The proposal to increase the financial assistance from the current maximum of £50,000 to £100,000 is clearly a matter for the Council's elected members. I am committed to increasing the options for London's affordable housing tenants who wish to move either within or outside the capital. To support this I am one of the partners in the bid for funding recently submitted to the Department of Communities and Local Government to set up a pan-London mobility system (Capital Moves). However, my view remains that the most effective solution to the pressures caused by the lack of affordable housing is to increase the delivery of new affordable homes.
