London Underground (LU) recognises the travel demand that Christmas shopping activity creates across the whole of London and plans carefully to minimise the effects of any closures necessitated by its ongoing investment programme. During this period this year, there will be closures on the Piccadilly line between Uxbridge and Acton Town and on the Metropolitan line between Moor Park and Amersham/Chesham.These sections of line have been selected as demand from these stations is relatively light in comparison with most other parts of the LU network. In addition, shutting these sections will not result in any reduction in central area trains allowing all central LU stations to continue to operate at maximum capacity during this busy period.A robust alternative transport strategy will be in place to serve the affected stations with the Metropolitan line, Central line and District line providing links to central London. A rail replacement bus service will link the stations between Rayners Lane and Acton Town.
