Car-free day formed part of Good Going week, which took place between 15-24th Sept, with 10 days of local events across the Capital promoting sustainable travel choices. On the Friday 22 September, four main events took place at Holborn, Brent, Lewisham and Farrington. In addition, a number of boroughs held `car free' day events on the preceding Sunday to minimise disruption and maximise attendance - these included Greenwich, Waltham Forest and Hammersmith & Fulham. Most of the events involved road closures, entertainment and information on sustainable transport. There was a significant turn out at most events, for example at Greenwich an estimated 40,000 people attended. There was also positive media coverage of selected events through ITV and BBC London. An evaluation of each Car Free Day event in London will be available towards the end of the calendar year as part of a wider assessment of the `Good Going' week events.
