London Underground engaged with the PPP contractors and their key suppliers at an early stage in the development of the trains, signals and other train systems to develop energy efficient solutions for the line upgrades. This has resulted in the application of optimised train coasting, regenerative braking, composite low-loss conductor rail and timetable optimisation to avoid train bunching and inefficient operation. In addition, LU is developing technical power system solutions with the Power PFI contractor that will deliver power to the railway in the most efficient manner.
