The success of Safer Neighbourhoods is evident through the reported increase in satisfaction with local policing and the provision of a more accessible, visible and accountable policing presence. The Public Attitude Survey results for the past year indicate that 63% of Londoners were satisfied with the way their area was policed, a 9% rise on the previous year. A Key Individual Network Survey conducted in May 2006 recorded that 77% of respondents are satisfied with the way their neighbourhood is policed, 71% have noticed an increase in police presence in their local area and 74% of respondents are kept informed about what the police have been doing. I am convinced that a major reason for the cut in London's crime is the deployment of dedicated beat police teams in our neighbourhoods ' an additional benefit of Safer Neighbourhoods and a responsibility of the borough Operational Command Unit as a whole rather than Safer Neighbourhood teams in isolation.
